Adding data labels to your chart

Once you have created a chart, it is helpful to add data labels so that the exact values can easily be read on the chart.

To add data labels, click on the Format Chart menu tab located in the upper left-hand side of the screen.

This tab should turn green after it is selected. Open the Labels and Sorting section.

In the Labels area, click on the box next to the label that you would like to add to the chart. Unselect the box to remove the labels.

For two or three variable charts:

Show Totals - Add a data label that shows the total value for a particular chart element (e.g., it will show the total value for a bar chart, each data point on a line chart, or the value of each clustered column).

For three variable charts:

Show Segment Totals As: Actual Values - This will add a data label next to the segment (e.g., it will show the segment values on a stacked bar chart or on a donut chart).

Using Show Segment Totals As, you can show the actual value, each segment's percentage of the entire element, or both the value and the percentage.
